Busing on the Lookout: Casinos & Buses

Sex trafficking survivors have reported their traffickers using casinos as a meeting place for buyers who were arranged online or as a venue to solicit prospective buyers. Casinos can also be a refuge for victims, offering a secure place where they can seek help or attempt to exit their situation. As buses carry patrons to and from casinos, those drivers may be coming into contact with trafficking victims who are being transported on those buses or see the bus as a lifeline for escape.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

There are four critical steps that casinos throughout the United States and Canada should take to support the recovery of victims and to help hold traffickers accountable. These best practices include:

  • Implement industry-specific training for all employees;
  • Post victim-centered information on the human trafficking hotline in your casinos;
  • Adopt an anti-human trafficking policy with a demand-reduction focus; and
  • Establish an internal reporting policy.

BOTL TRAINING RESOURCES FOR CASINOS

BOTL’s free industry-specific training materials for casinos are designed to train gaming industry employees on how to recognize and report signs of human trafficking they may be seeing in the course of their everyday jobs.  These materials are a primary training tool for casinos and can be supplementary to the standard BOTL resources for transit and motorcoach outlined here. Contact info@truckersagainsttrafficking.org for print materials.
