HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Harris County 4 Precinct 4 Constable’s Office found a human trafficking victim from Alaska on Friday.

Officials said they were contacted by the Anchorage Police Department in reference to a human trafficking victim. Investigators said a 19-year-old woman was taken from Alaska for Houston “for the purpose of the commercial sex trade.”

The victim was found at a motel in the 16200 block of Highway 290 with two other women. She was taken to a shelter and will be taken back to Alaska.

“This female victim and the others identified in this investigation were first contacted by human traffickers via Facebook,” Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman said. “Social media sites and cellphone applications, such as KIK, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have exploded in the last few years enabling those looking for opportunities to exploit and harm our children. The vast majority of these sites are frequented by a younger crowd, so they use these sites to lure and entice new victims into what turns out to be human trafficking.”
